The Beauty of Nature & the People Around Us

As summer comes to a close and fall slowly makes its appearance, it is a good time to reflect on our months of experiencing our favorite outdoor activities. A common one being hiking. Hiking allows us to come face to face with some of Gods most beautiful creations. Those moments when you reach the most breath-taking look out point we must always remember that it is our responsibility to take care of this gift.

Allison, our latest Athlete Profile, speaks with such mindfulness and grace reminding us to not only appreciate nature but all life that surrounds us.

When did you first start hiking? What do you love about it?

I first started hiking with my family. Since we grew up in the Pacific Northwest, we hiked on a pretty consistent basis. I love breathing in the fresh air, so crisp and refreshing. It’s nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city- sometimes you hardly pass anyone on the trail. It gives you room to think, breathe.

Describe the feeling when you get to the lookout point of a hike?

It's a sense of accomplishment. The views make the uphill sections worth it. And that's when I get to eat my snacks I brought on the hike, so that's nice too. Always bring good snacks.

What is the most beautiful hike you have ever experienced?

The most beautiful hike I've ever been on was Park Butte. It ends at a lookout tower, where you come face to face with Mt. Baker. Nothing like seeing such a huge mountain up close to make you feel grateful for the views you get to experience.

You experience the beauty of nature constantly... Do you believe we have a level of social responsibility to take care of that and the people around us?

The things around us — nature and people are the two things that really matter in life. It's important that we take care of the nature that's around us, and the people that are around us too. That's one of the reasons I love Footsteps, they live this out not only in their words, but more importantly their actions as they donate to those in need with every purchase.

Thank you, Allison, for sharing your love of hiking with us. We will definitely be putting Park Butte on our list of hikes “to do” next season.

Footsteppers, next time you come face to face with the most beautiful creations, remember we have responsibility to care for it; a responsibility to help others in need. Responsibility to appreciate all walks of life. Join us as we try to do just that, with one pair of socks at a time.
